Partners for Fish and Wildlife Act Signed Into Law

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Sullivan released the following statement following President Bush’s signing of S. 260, the Partners for Fish and Wildlife Act, into law:

“Today is a great day for private landowners in Oklahoma and across our nation, as they now have a law to help them protect fish and wildlife on their lands. The popular and landowner friendly Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program is a shining example of how we can protect wildlife and the property of individuals at the same time. The Partners Program provides federal technical and financial assistance to private landowners to voluntarily restore wetlands and other fish and wildlife habitat on their own land. I was proud to be the sponsor of the House companion legislation, H.R. 2018, and to work on this legislation with my colleague, Senator James Inhofe. I am pleased that this legislation was able to pass the House and the Senate quickly, so that it could be signed into law by President Bush. With more than 80 percent of fish and wildlife in the United States on private lands, the future of our natural resources depends on conservation of habitat, the successful management of wildlife, and the control of invasive species on private land. The Partners for Fish and Wildlife Act will help private landowners take these important steps towards habitat restoration.”
