Kelly Obtains $580,000 for Road Repairs and Improvements in Pawling

Congresswoman Secures Federal Money for Town, Village in Transportation Bill

PAWLING – U.S. Congresswoman Sue Kelly has obtained a total of $580,000 in federal transportation aid for road repairs in Pawling through legislation that has gained final Congressional approval and been signed into law.

As a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, Kelly successfully wrote provisions into the bill that will bring federal funding directly to towns and villages in Dutchess County to help them improve their roads, sidewalks, and transportation-related infrastructure.

“Pawling residents send enough of their hard-earned money to Washington in taxes, so it is very important that we get a good return of federal money to Pawling to address our local transportation needs,” Kelly said. “These federal funds help keep Pawling from having to collect extra local taxes to fill potholes or pay for important road improvements.”

Kelly obtained $400,000 in the bill for the Town to make road repairs and enhancements along Old Route 55. She also secured $100,000 for the rehabilitation of Grandview Avenue in the Village and $80,000 for improvements to Reservoir Road.

Kelly met with Town Supervisor Edward Hauser, Village Mayor Robert Liffland, County Legislator Dave Kelly, and Highway Superintendent Tyler Maile at Murrow Park on March 23, 2005, to discuss the future uses of the funding to enhance Old Route 55 near the park and finalize the details of planned road enhancements in the Village.

“Day in and day out, we all rely upon well-paved roads and safe travel around Pawling,” Kelly said. “I will continue fighting for our fair share of federal transportation funds from Congress to help repair our local roads and make life easier for Pawling residents,” Kelly said.
