Porter and Veterans.jpgOver the past four years, I have diligently advocated for the improvement of veterans healthcare in our state. Nevada has one of the fastest growing veteran populations in the country, and it is imperative that we have the facilities to provide for them.

The new Las Vegas Veterans' Medical Complex is a 750,000 square foot facility on 154 acres and will accommodate 90 inpatient beds and a 120-bed extended and skilled care nursing home care unit. The comprehensive medical care complex will provide the veteran with services including primary and specialty care, surgery, mental health, rehabilitation, geriatrics and extended care. Presently the completion date of the medical center is approximately 2010.

As a Member of Congress, I understand the importance of providing quality medical care to our veterans and I will continue to ensure that the medical complex receives the resources necessary for completion. The new complex will provide the services needed for those returning from the Global War on Terror and our growing veteran’s population.
