Rep. Kelly Obtains More Than $37 Million for Local Transportation Needs in Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester Counties

Congresswoman Secures Funding in Federal Transportation Bill to Help Hudson Valley Communities

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Sue Kelly has obtained more than $37 million in federal funds to support widespread road improvements and other transportation needs in Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Rockland and Westchester Counties in legislation that was signed into law in August 2005.

As a senior member of the House Transportation Committee, Kelly successfully wrote provisions into the Transportation Equity Act that will bring federal funding directly to towns and villages throughout the Hudson Valley to help them repair their roads and improve other transportation-related infrastructure.

Kelly worked with local county, town, and village officials to identify various road improvement needs in Hudson Valley communities. Kelly then worked at the federal level to secure the necessary funding to help meet those transportation-related needs. The funding was approved by Congress on a project-by-project basis, based on transportation project cost estimates received from the individual town or village.

“New York residents send enough of their hard-earned money to Washington in taxes, so it is very important to fight for our fair share of federal transportation funds to repair our roads, eliminate congestion at our intersections, and ensure convenient travel access around the Hudson Valley,” Kelly said.

“The money that I secured for local towns and villages in this bill will help create new local jobs in our region and help fund the necessary road repairs and traffic improvements to make travel easier and safer for Hudson Valley residents,” Kelly added.
