On the Front Line: Marty on Human Rights

U.S. Rep. Marty Meehan is a strong supporter of justice and human rights across the globe. As a member of the Congressional Human Rights Caucus, he has worked closely with organizations such as Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, Freedom House, and the Human Rights Campaign. His relationship with these and other groups has allowed the Congressman to remain a leader in the House of Representatives on human rights concerns.

Marty takes a stand against the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC)

The Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC) -- formerly the School of the Americas -- trains police and military personnel from Latin America.  The school's official purpose was to instill in our southern neighbors a respect for democratic values and human rights.  Instead, the school educated many of the region's worst human rights abusers, including eleven dictators.  WHINSEC continues to function in the same vein with a human rights record no better than that of the School of the Americas.  Like the School of the Americas, many of WHINSEC's alumni have returned to their home countries to repress, abuse, and kill their fellow citizens.
