Dreier Applauds Continued Job Growth
Congressman Dreier applauded today's Labor Department report indicating a strong and growing job market. The Labor Department announced that the unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent, the lowest level in 5 years. The Department also found that 92,000 jobs were created in October and job growth was higher than anticipated in August and September. He said the news today makes the case that Republican tax relief and pro-growth economic policies are working for the American people.

Dreier Honored For Successful Effort to Change U.S.-Mexico Extradition Policy
Congressman Dreier was honored this week for his successful efforts to change the extradition policy of Mexico in order to secure the extradition of the alleged killer of Los Angeles County Deputy Sheriff David March. He received the Pursuit of Justice Award from the Association of Deputy District Attorneys, along with Deputy March’s parents, John and Barbara March, and his widow, Teri March.

Dreier Lauds Significant Reduction of Budget Deficit
Congressman Dreier applauded news today that the federal budget deficit has been reduced by half, a full three years ahead of schedule. The Office of Management and Budget announced today that the federal budget deficit at the end of Fiscal Year 2006 is $248 billion, down from the Fiscal Year 2004 high of $521 billion. Dreier said the announcement was more proof positive that Republican, pro-growth fiscal policies were resulting in increased tax revenues, lower deficits, more jobs, and a strong stock market.

Dreier Hails Higher Wages and Continued Job Growth
Congressman Dreier hailed reports of continued job growth during September 2006, when 51,000 jobs were created and the unemployment rate dropped to 4.6 percent. September was the 37th consecutive month of job growth. Since August 2003, 6.6 million jobs have been created. Additionally, the average hourly earnings for American workers grew four percent over the last year. Real after-tax income has risen 15 percent since January 2001.

Congressman Dreier voted today to approve critical border and national security funding. H.R. 5441, the Fiscal Year 2007 Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act Conference Report, was approved with bipartisan support, 412-6. Also passed as part of the bill was Dreier’s proposal to punish those who construct illegal border tunnels.

Congressman Dreier voted last night to modernize and streamline the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) so that intelligence agencies can track and catch terrorists before they strike. The Electronic Surveillance Modernization Act, H.R. 5825, was approved with bipartisan support, 232-191.

The Department of Defense Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2007 Conference Report, H.R. 5631, was approved with strong bipartisan support, 394-22.
