Pelosi Statement on Passing of Former Congressman Bill Lehman

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement on the death today of former Congressman Bill Lehman of Florida:

"With the passing of Bill Lehman, we have lost a great American. During his time in Congress, Bill was a friend of the civil rights community and a leader on transportation issues, rising to chair the Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation.

"Throughout his life, this son of Selma, Alabama, was utterly committed to fairness and equality, and he lived that commitment every day. We are grateful for his courage to stand up for what was right, often when it wasn’t convenient or comfortable.

"The people of South Florida have lost a true friend, and America has lost a strong champion for civil rights and social justice. I hope it is a comfort to his wife Joan and his entire family that so many people mourn their loss and are praying for them at this sad time. We will miss him greatly."
