Pelosi: Republican Intelligence Bill Goes Far Outside 9/11 Commission RecommendationsWashington, D.C. --House "More than two months ago, the 9/11 Commission issued its unanimous bipartisan report, which underscored the urgent task before us: to move quickly to make our nation safer. "Today, instead of acting in a bipartisan manner, the Republican leadership is introducing a bill, written behind closed doors, that attempts to score partisan points and goes far outside the recommendations of the 9/11 Commission. Unbelievably, the Republicans claim to have introduced a bipartisan bill, as Senate leaders have done. It is simply not true. "The victims of 9/11, their families, and all Americans deserve legislation that reflects the spirit of the 9/11 Commission recommendations. This can only be achieved if the Republican leadership allows a full and open debate in committee and on the floor of the House. "Congress must work in a true bipartisan manner to produce legislation that makes the American people more secure, respects that 9/11 is hallowed ground, and brings solace to the families of 9/11 victims."
