Pelosi: Butterfield Named to Agriculture and Small Business Committees
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that she nominated Congressman G.K. Butterfield (D-NC) to the Agriculture Committee and the Small Business Committee. The Democratic Steering and Policy Committee and Democratic Caucus confirmed the nomination this afternoon. The House of Representatives is expected to confirm the nomination tonight.
"G.K. Butterfield knows firsthand the importance of agriculture and small business to North Carolina and our nation's economy," Pelosi said. "He will work to protect family farms and to increase rural economic development in North Carolina's 1st congressional district. He is extremely talented and will make an outstanding addition to the Agriculture and Small Business Committees."
The Agriculture Committee is responsible for policies that assure a safe, abundant and affordable food supply. The Committee is also responsible for issues including bioterrorism and homeland security, conservation, nutrition, forest management, and trade and rural development.
The Small Business Committee is responsible for policies that support new and small businesses through open access to loans, credit and capital. The Committee is also responsible for issues including tax relief for small businesses, federal contracting for small businesses, and promoting policies that increase minority-owned and women-owned small businesses.
