Democrats Unite to Aid Unemployed Workers

Washington, DC--Today the House and Senate conference committee on the Wartime Supplemental Appropriations bill approved legislation by Rep. David Obey (D-WI) to extend unemployment aid to laid off airline workers by 26 weeks. The vote was passed over strong Republican objections and now is expected to be part of the final bill.

"It is only fair that we aid workers who have suffered the downturns of the economy after September 11," stated Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi. "Despite strong objections from the House Republicans, and with the outstanding Leadership of Rep. David Obey, we were able to do the right thing do the right thing for America’s aviation workers."
