Pelosi Statement on 9/11 Commission Report
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the 9/11 Commission report released today:
"Today, the bipartisan 9/11 Commission released its unanimous report. We salute the commission for its excellent work, its leadership, its patriotism, and its service to our country. I am pleased that this report is widely available to the public.
"The report underscores the urgent task before us -- to move more quickly to make our nation safer -- and the terrible consequences that we risk if we do not.
"The purpose of the 9/11 Commission was not to assign blame, but to find answers for the families and to reduce risk to the American people. We must take the Commission's work and use it to make certain that such horrific attacks never occur again.
"Congress should move immediately to consider the recommendations of the Commission. It is unrealistic to think they would all be received, considered and passed into law this year, but I would hope that the committees of jurisdiction would quickly review the findings and consider the recommendations.
"Our goal should be to make sure that we are doing everything we can to defeat international terrorist groups such as al-Qaeda, which pose the greatest threat to our security."
