Pelosi Statement on Bush 'Manufacturing Czar'Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the announcement by the Bush Administration that it intended to nominate California businessman Al Frink to serve as 'manufacturing czar': "President Bush hasn’t created a single manufacturing job over the past three years, and 1 million jobs have been sent overseas since the beginning of his Administration. Today, the Administration finally managed to create one more job by appointing a new 'manufacturing czar' -- a position that took seven months to fill. "This is cold comfort to the 8.4 million Americans still looking for work. Manufacturing workers want action. Manufacturing employment is at a 53-year low -- an astonishing 2.8 million manufacturing jobs have been lost since the beginning of the Bush Administration. Yet the Republican leadership in the House refuses to schedule a vote on the bipartisan Crane-Rangel manufacturing bill, which would lower taxes for American manufacturers and keep good paying jobs in the United States.
