Pelosi Web Site Wins Award
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi's Leadership Web site (DemocraticLeader.house.gov) received third place in the internet/electronic media category of the American Association of Political Consultants' annual "Pollie" Awards. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi was the only Congressional Democrat honored by the world's largest bipartisan organization of political professionals, which presents awards in more than 80 categories.
"We strive to maintain a Web site that is both informative and easy to use," Pelosi said. "It is my hope that visitors will use the site to learn about the Democratic agenda, Congress, and issues that affect their daily lives. My office is continually improving our Web site and updating it with timely information."
Since becoming House Democratic Leader in January 2003, Pelosi has significantly increased Congressional Democrats' online communications efforts. In addition to Pelosi's Leadership site, the Office of the Democratic Leader developed a new Web site (HouseDemocrats.gov) to showcase the legislative efforts of the entire Democratic Caucus and provide state-by-state information to the public. The Leader's office also maintains an internal "intranet" to communicate with Democratic Members of Congress and their staff.
The Democratic Leader Web site includes the following features:
- clickable, animated state-by-state maps showing the impact of the Bush Administration's policies on five major issue areas;
- online issue polls;
- 'What Democrats are Saying' feature highlighting newsworthy comments from Democratic Members of Congress;
- press releases, speeches and articles;
- special features on timely topics, such as BudgetWatch, Women's History Month and Black History Month;
- information about the House of Representatives;
- photographs; and
- biographical information about Leader Pelosi.
