Pelosi Statement on 9/11 Commission Extension

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the letter from House Speaker Dennis Hastert removing his objection to extending the independent 9/11 Commission:

"The Chairman and Vice Chairman of the 9/11 Commission have been advised that Speaker Hastert will support an additional 60 days for the Commission to submit its final report and an additional 30 days for the Commission to declassify the report and terminate its activities.

"Now Speaker Hastert must act and quickly bring the Senate bill extending the 9/11 Commission to the House floor. The Senate bill, passed today, ensures that this additional time is written into law.

"The families of 9/11 and the American people deserve answers. They need a full accounting of all aspects of the horrific September 11 attacks, and this extension will bring us closer to that goal."
