Pelosi Statement on Republican Attacks on Senator Daschle

Pelosi Statement on Republican Attacks on Senator Daschle

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today about Republican attacks on Senate Democratic Leader Tom Daschle:

"No one should ever question the patriotism of Senator Tom Daschle. He is an outstanding leader and respected public official who has served his country with distinction as Democratic Leader in the Senate, as a Member of the House of Representatives, and as an officer in the U.S. Air Force.

"Two weeks after the attack on Pearl Harbor, Republican Senator Robert Taft of Ohio said: 'Criticism in time of war is essential to the maintenance of any kind of democratic government.'

"In expressing his views, Tom Daschle is being patriotic. The Republican leaders are being partisan."
