Pelosi: Bush Administration Puts Politics Above Sound Science

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement regarding today’s call by more than 60 leading scientists to restore scientific integrity to federal policy-making:

"Sound scientific research is the foundation for good public policy, but in the Bush Administration, politics are more important than science. Instead of using first-rate science to make policy decisions, the Bush Administration is systematically censoring and suppressing scientific research when the facts do not agree with their view of how things should be.

"In the technology world, there's a phrase: 'garbage in, garbage out.' By using junk science to write and rewrite our nation's laws and regulations, that's what the Bush Administration is doing, thereby putting our health, environment, public safety, and national security at risk. The Bush Administration should heed the call of top U.S. scientists to restore scientific integrity to federal policy-making."
