Pelosi: 'Claiming that Jobs Are Coming Does Not Create Them'
Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush’s annual economic report, which predicts that the economy will create 2.6 million jobs this year and says that outsourcing of jobs overseas is good for America:
"The President's report is further proof that he needs a reality check. Claiming that jobs are coming does not create them.
"With this President, jobs are always just around the corner. Whenever he wants to pass a tax cut, he claims that it will create hundreds of thousands of new jobs. When the jobs do not come, the President shrugs his shoulders, makes a new prediction, and says it's fine that jobs are going overseas.
"Instead of giving big corporations tax incentives to export jobs, Democrats propose tax breaks to keep American jobs in America and to revitalize our manufacturing base. After three years of Republicans being in complete control, it's clear that Democrats have a better way.
"President Bush and the Republicans have added more than $3 trillion to the national debt and lost nearly 3 million jobs, the worst record on job creation since Herbert Hoover. It is time to take a different path and get serious about job creation."
