Pelosi Statement on the Iraq Supplemental Loan Provision

Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on press reports that House-Senate-White House negotiators have stripped the loan provision from the $87 billion Iraq supplemental funding bill:

"A strong majority of the House and Senate sent a clear message that we supported loans as a way to lower the cost of reconstruction to American taxpayers. If the negotiators strip the loan provision they are saying that the will of a majority of Congress, the will of the people, can be ignored. This is unacceptable."
