Pelosi: On Economic Tour, Administration Should Listen to Families -- Job Losses are Taking a Real Toll

Washington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today regarding the Bush Administration’s so-called Jobs and Growth tour stops in Wisconsin and Minnesota:

"It’s difficult to understand why the Bush Administration is promoting the President’s mishandling of the economy. Since the President took office, three million jobs have been lost and a projected $3 trillion will be added to the national debt.

"The 9.4 million people in this country who are out of work and can’t find a job are not being helped by an economic plan that gives enormous tax breaks to those who need them least. And neither are the working and military families of 12 million children who did not get the expanded child tax credit other families are receiving, nor the record number of homeowners faced with losing their homes.

"As President Bush and his Administration travel the country, they should really listen to what everyday Americans are saying. They will hear that the Republicans’ reckless and irresponsible economic policies are not working and must be set aside. They will hear that it is time to get to work for all Americans, not just the elite few. And they will hear that people are genuinely concerned about their economic stability and the future of their families.

"Job losses are taking a real toll on the financial security of American families. Democrats are fighting for opportunity, jobs, and economic security for everyday working families. Mr. President, it’s time to join our fight."
