Pelosi Statement on Decision to Send U.S. Forces to Coast of LiberiaWashington, D.C. -- House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today following the decision by President Bush to position U.S. military forces off the coast of Liberia: "The special historical relationship between the people of the United States and the people of Liberia compels us to do what we can to end the suffering there. Therefore, I support the deployment of a limited number of American military personnel, as part of an international force that includes the United Nations and West African nations, to help bring peace to Liberia. "The atrocities of Charles Taylor are well known. I agree with President Bush that Charles Taylor must leave Liberia. The sooner he leaves, the sooner the lives of the Liberian people will start to improve." |
“ Democrats are united in presenting a New Direction for America, one that will make our nation as strong as its people, one that brings opportunity, security, and prosperity to all Americans. ” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi |
