Pelosi Statement on British Army Commander’s Concerns About the War in Iraq

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on comments made by General Richard Dannatt, the Commander of the British Army, regarding the war in Iraq:

“The Commander of the British Army has reached the same conclusion as many American generals and the partially declassified National Intelligence Estimate on Terrorism: the war in Iraq is making it more difficult to win the war on terror.

“The attacks on our forces are increasing, casualty figures are continuing to mount, and the security situation in Iraq is not improving – it is clear that our objectives and the means to achieve them need to be revised.

“The security interests of the United States are not advanced by allowing the situation in Iraq to place an unacceptable strain on our Army and Marine Corps and hinder our efforts to combat terrorism and protect the American people.”
