Pelosi: ‘National Latino Museum is a Testament to the Strength and Creativity of Latinos’Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today applauding the passage of H.R. 2134, the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of American Latino Heritage Act, sponsored by Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA): "This month, as we celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month and all of the achievements of the Hispanic community in our country, House Democrats applaud the passage of H.R. 2134, the Commission to Study the Potential Creation of a National Museum of American Latino Heritage Act. "As a Californian, I know full well that the contributions of Hispanics to America is as old as our country; our nation is invigorated by Latinos’ optimism, energy, and patriotism. I hope that in the future, these achievements will finally be displayed in a national museum as a testament to the strength and creativity of the Latino community in the United States. "I would especially like to recognize Congressman Xavier Becerra, the longtime champion of H.R. 2134. In March 2005, I was proud to name him to the Smithsonian Board of Regents. Since then, Congressman Becerra has brought great depth and dedication to this prestigious institution and has worked tirelessly to ensure that Americans from all walks of life are represented. "Democrats continue to reaffirm our commitment to the Hispanic community. We want a new direction for Hispanic Americans and for all Americans." |
“ Democrats are united in presenting a New Direction for America, one that will make our nation as strong as its people, one that brings opportunity, security, and prosperity to all Americans. ” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi |
