Pelosi Statement on Ramadan
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today to commemorate the start of Ramadan, which began on Saturday:
"Ramadan, the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, marks a time for inner reflection, devotion to God, and self-control for the more than 1 billion Muslims around the world. During this sacred month, it is also an opportunity for us to recognize the enormous contributions of the millions of Muslim Americans to our country.
"As we work to promote religious tolerance throughout the world, we are reminded that we are a country of many faiths, and our diversity is one of our greatest strengths. It is in the observance of our religious holidays that we can find common threads of respect, compassion, and commitment to family to bind us together.
"Ramadan Mubarak! May you and your family be blessed during this sacred month."
