Pelosi Commemorates Hispanic Heritage MonthWashington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, which starts today and runs through October 15. “Today we celebrate the first day of Hispanic Heritage Month, which honors the Latino community and pays tribute to the extraordinary contributions that Hispanics make to “Economically, culturally, and politically, Latinos are an integral part of our nation. There are approximately 43 million Hispanic Americans, and they represent the fastest growing group in our country. Their hard work, deep faith and closely-knit families have made “Democrats have introduced an agenda, a New Direction for America, that sets forth initiatives that would benefit millions of Latino families by expanding access to college, ending tax giveaways that reward companies for moving American jobs overseas, lowering gas prices, moving toward energy independence, making prescription drugs more affordable, and providing true retirement security. “As we honor the achievements of Hispanic Americans, we must also address our country’s broken immigration system. It is our moral duty to pass comprehensive immigration reform. Latinos deserve a real opportunity to achieve the American Dream, whether they have been here for generations or just arrived to our shores. That’s why I am proud to partner with my Democratic colleagues to promote the New Direction agenda that builds opportunity for all American families.” |
“ Democrats are united in presenting a New Direction for America, one that will make our nation as strong as its people, one that brings opportunity, security, and prosperity to all Americans. ” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi |
