Pelosi Celebrates National Citizenship Day

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today celebrating National Citizenship Day, which is on July 1st:

“On National Citizenship Day, we recognize that America is constantly invigorated by optimism, energy, and patriotism of those who come to our shores in hope of a better future.  The immigrant dream is the American dream.

“For most immigrants, becoming a United States’ citizen is the culmination of many years of hard work.  Being a citizen offers new opportunity to have a greater say and a stronger voice in determining our country’s future.  I encourage all Americans to exercise those opportunities with political and civic participation.

“This weekend, Democrats across the country will be holding workshops free of charge to help new immigrants navigate the process of becoming a citizen.  As we celebrate National Citizenship Day on July 1st, let us rededicate ourselves to achieving real immigration reform and a true path to citizenship, every day.”
