Pelosi Selects Marcela Salazar as Democratic Hispanic Press Advisor

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi has named Marcela Salazar to lead Hispanic media outreach for the Democratic Leader’s office.  Salazar, who served as Senior Communications Specialist at the National Council of La Raza (NCLR), began her new duties this week.

“Marcela will be an integral part of House Democrats’ efforts to deliver our positive message of a new direction for all Americans to the Hispanic community,” said Pelosi.  “Her knowledge and experience working with Hispanic media will be a valuable asset for House Democrats.”

“I'm excited and honored to have this opportunity,” Salazar said.  “Democrats are working hard to promote economic prosperity and educational excellence, fight discrimination, and ensure that all families have the opportunity to reach their full potential.  I intend to work hard to communicate our views and initiatives to the American people.”

In NCLR’s Office of Pubic Information, Salazar performed communications outreach to both Hispanic media and Spanish-speaking communities across the nation.  Prior to that, she worked as a reporter in Spanish language media outlets including El País (Spain) and Tiempos del Mundo (Washington), and as an assistant producer for CNN en Espanol in Washington.

Salazar holds a bachelor’s degree from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service and a master’s degree in Journalism from the University of Barcelona-Columbia University.  She lives in Washington, D.C.
