Pelosi Statement on the Retirement of Congressman Lane Evans

Washington, D.C.– House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the retirement of Congressman Lane Evans (D-IL):

“On behalf of House Democrats, I want to thank Lane Evans for his service to our Caucus and our country.  As the senior Democrat on the Veterans Affairs Committee and a proud Marine, Lane has been a champion for veterans and one of their leading advocates in Congress.  Over the years, he has been instrumental in securing compensation for veterans exposed to Agent Orange, spearheading investigations into Gulf War syndrome, providing adequate funding for VA health care, raising awareness about the mental health needs of veterans and service members, and fighting for the benefits that our veterans earned and deserve.

“In recent years, however, Lane has had to fight a different kind of battle against Parkinson’s disease.  Although this disease affected his body, it never once diminished his brilliant mind or his passion to serve his constituents and fight for the issues in which he so deeply believed.  His courage has been an inspiration to all of us and we will miss Lane and his leadership here in the House.”
