Pelosi Statement on Menendez Appointment to the Senate

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement congratulating Congressman Bob Menendez on his appointment to serve out the remaining Senate term of New Jersey Governor-elect Jon Corzine:

"Bob Menendez has been a tremendous leader in the House and the Democratic Caucus.  He made history as the first Latino to be elected to Leadership in the Congress, and I have been proud to serve alongside him and call him my colleague and friend.

"As the son of immigrants, Bob Menendez demonstrates all that is possible when driven by hard work and the courage of conviction.  He understands policy and is tremendously articulate; he has used those skills to take the Democratic message straight to the American people.  With his strong convictions and superb skills as a tactician, he has been able to build coalitions to accomplish a great deal in his 13 years in the House.

"We will miss Bob here in the House, but I am pleased that he will be another Hispanic voice in the Senate and know that he will continue to serve his constituents and our nation well.  On behalf of House Democrats, I thank Bob Menendez for his service to our Caucus and country in the House of Representatives.
