Pelosi Statement on the Death of Simon Wiesenthal
Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on the death of Simon Wiesenthal:
“Today we mourn the passing of Simon Wiesenthal; and as we mourn, we recommit to seeking truth and justice in honor of his life-long commitment to these ideals.
“Liberated by American soldiers from the death camp of Mauthausen in Austria in 1945, Simon Wiesenthal is a testament to the strength of the human spirit. Rather than succumb to bitterness or despair, he dedicated his life to finding the fugitive Nazis who perpetrated the horrible atrocities of the Holocaust.
“Speaking for those who could no longer speak for themselves, Simon Wiesenthal kept their memory alive and fought anti-Semitism wherever it had taken root; this is a lesson for us all. Now, as the task falls to all of us to carry on his mission, we must honor his work and life with dedication to the values he held so dear.”
