Pelosi Holds Reception in Celebration of Manmohan Singh, Prime Minster of India

Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in recognition of Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India, and his visit to the United States. Pelosi welcomed Indian American representatives at a reception in her office in celebration of Prime Minster Singh following his address this morning to a joint session of Congress.

“It is an honor to welcome such a distinguished guest as Prime Minister Singh to the United States Capitol. Prior to his election as Prime Minister, he served India as Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, and is widely acclaimed as the architect of the modern Indian economy.

“The United States and India share common interests, and are working together to combat terrorism, develop technology, and enhance medical research. A strong relationship between two of the world’s most influential democracies is crucial to fostering these objectives.

“Prime Minster Singh’s visit is an opportunity to renew our commitment to work to strengthen our ties of friendship with India and celebrate the enormous contributions that the Indian-American community makes to the United States.”
