Pelosi: ‘Protecting America from Terrorism Requires More Than Just Resolve, It Requires a Plan’Washington, D.C. – House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement this afternoon in response to President Bush’s speech today at the FBI training academy on terrorism: “Protecting America from terrorism requires more than just resolve, it requires a plan. As we have seen in Iraq, planning is not the Bush Administration’s strong suit. “The 9/11 intelligence reform legislation the President signed into law last December directed the Department of Homeland Security to create a national strategy for transportation security by April 1. That date came and went with no plan – only an empty promise by the Administration to comply by July 1. Congress and the American people are still waiting for the Administration’s plan. “After failing to meet both deadlines, the Administration needs to make homeland security a higher priority in terms of resources and in terms of effort. Until the President resolves to do that, Americans will not be as safe as they should be. “Democrats will continue to push for common-sense measures to protect America from terrorism by making the necessary investments in port and transit security, protecting our nuclear and chemical plants, and fully equipping our first responders.” |
“ Democrats are united in presenting a New Direction for America, one that will make our nation as strong as its people, one that brings opportunity, security, and prosperity to all Americans. ” Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi |
