Pelosi Nominates Wasserman Schultz for House Judiciary Committee

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi announced today that she has nominated Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz of Florida for the House Judiciary Committee. The Democratic Steering Committee approved the nomination last night, and the full Democratic Caucus is expected to approve it next month.

“Debbie Wasserman Schultz will be a powerful and passionate new voice on the Judiciary Committee for the values that we hold dear – protecting civil rights and civil liberties, ensuring that we maintain our nation’s leading role in innovation and high technology, and defending our most precious document, our Constitution,” Pelosi said.

“Debbie is a rising star in the Democratic Caucus and will be an outstanding Member of the Committee.”

The House Judiciary Committee has broad legislative and oversight responsibilities relating to the Constitution, civil liberties, the judiciary, and all criminal laws. Other major areas include immigration, intellectual property, antitrust, and commercial laws.
