Pelosi Calls on President Bush to Reverse Decision on TSA Screeners

House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi today called on President Bush to reverse immediately the decision by the Transportation Security Agency to deny collective bargaining rights to airport security screeners.

“Public safety officers across the country - firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel - have engaged in collective bargaining to ensure safe working conditions and fair wages for years, " she said.

"Having spent ten years on the House Select Committee on Intelligence, I can say with authority that there is no evidence that collective bargaining undermines national security. The notion that collective bargaining 'is not compatible with the flexibility required to wage the war against terrorism' is simply ludicrous. This is a decision based on ideology, not security.

“Once again, the Administration has shown its disdain for the workers of America and for basic fairness and respect in the workplace. The President should show more respect for the 56,000 women and men who are working so hard to keep the flying public safe in the air and restore their right to bargain collectively."
