New VA Hospital to be Built in Louisville- June 30, 2006

Congresswoman Anne Northup and Veterans Affairs Secretary Jim Nicholson announced plans to build a new VA hospital in Louisville. Secretary Nicholson says patient demand is a  factor in deciding to build a new facility.

"The current VA hospital is beloved by the veterans of this community. Unfortunately, this facility cannot be modernized. It's important to build a new, state-of-the-art hospital," said Congresswoman Anne Northup.

The cost and location are not finalized. An advisory panel will look at possible sites.

Secretary Nicholson says it would be two to four years before ground is broken for the new hospital.

Louisville was among only a few cities nationally where new VA hospitals are planned.
