Welcome!

September 20, 2006, presented an inspiring sight on Capitol Hill.  More than 10,000 people from across the country, including several from our Fourth District, came to Washington for the American Cancer Society’s Celebration on the Hill 2006.  They reminded all of us that while great progress has been made in the fight against cancer, there is much more that needs to be done.

I have agreed to sign the Congressional Cancer Promise to signal support for cancer-related research and legislation.  The National Cancer Institute has set a goal of eliminating suffering and death due to cancer by 2015.  This is a major public health issue for Ohio, where 60,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed each year.

I appreciate the citizen involvement demonstrated by my constituents in the Fourth District and by cancer survivors and their supporters from throughout Ohio in making the trip to our nation’s capital.

It has been my honor to participate in the Relay for Life and other American Cancer Society events during my tenure in Congress.  Like almost everyone, I’ve had family members and close friends who have been touched by cancer.  One way to recognize their courage is to dedicate ourselves to finding a cure for this disease.
