BASS APPLAUDS BIPARTISAN PASSAGE OF SPENDING REFORM BILL Washington, D.C. – Congressman Charles Bass (R- NH02) strongly supported H. Res. 1000, a bill to require more accountability and transparency in federal spending. The bill passed the House by a bipartisan vote of 245 to 171.

BRADLEY AND BASS APPLAUD RELEASE OF NEARLY $3 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL LIHEAP FUNDS FOR NEW HAMPSHIRE (Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Reps. Jeb Bradley and Charles Bass (R-NH) today announced that New Hampshire is slated to receive $2.98 million in funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) by the end of the week. The funds are included in the LIHEAP surplus account, which was set to expire at the end of this fiscal year. The Bush Administration will release the surplus funds tomorrow. .

BASS APPLAUDS SENATE PASSAGE OF STEM CELL RESEARCH BILL
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Charles Bass (R-NH02) applauded Senate passage of H.R. 810, the Stem Cell Research Act . This bill, which passed the House in May of 2005, passed the Senate today by a vote of 63 to 37.

CHARLIE LEADS OPPOSITION TO AMENDMENT RESTRICTING NORTHERN BORDER TRAVEL
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Charles F. Bass’ (R-NH02) was successful today in defeating an amendment offered to the Science, State, Justice, Commerce, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act that would have prohibited U.S. citizens from using any document other than a passport to show citizenship when re-entering the U.S. This provision would hamper the free flow of trade and low-risk travelers across the border and would undermine a stipulation in the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative allowing for the development of other, secure documents that could be used in place of a passport when re-entering the US.

BASS LEGISLATION TO INCREASE FUEL SUPPLIES PASSES HOUSE
Washington, D.C. - Congressman Charles Bass (R-NH02) is pleased to announce today applauded House passage of H.R. 5254,that the Refinery Permit Process Schedule Act. (H.R. 5254) has passed the U.S. House of Representatives. This bill, which Bass-authored legislation would initiated, will create a federally coordinated scheduling process for the siting, permitting, and approval of application for the construction of a gasoline or biofuel or petroleum refinery. The House passed the Refinery Permit Process Schedule Act by a vote of 238 to 179.

NEW HAMPSHIRE CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION URGES IMMEDIATE FEDERAL RESPONSE TO REGIONAL FLOODING
WASHINGTON– U.S. Senators Judd Gregg and John Sununu (R-NH), and Representatives Charlie Bass and Jeb Bradley (R-NH) today wrote to President Bush and FEMA Acting Director R. David Paulison requesting prompt approval of the State’s request for a preliminary damage assessment and to support the state’s anticipated request for Major Disaster Declaration due to heavy rainfall and flooding throughout the state.

BASS AMENDMENT PASSES AS PART OF THE SAFE PORT ACT

Washington, D.C. - Congressman Charles Bass (R-NH02) today notified the House Leadership and House negotiators on the Coast Guard and Maritime Transportation Act (H.R. 889) that he opposes the addition of language to the legislation that would effectively halt progress on the proposed Cape Wind offshore wind farm that would produce up to 420 megawatts of clean, renewable energy.

BASS AND BRADLEY INTRODUCE LEGISLATION TO PROTECT WILD RIVER, SANDWICH RANGE AREAS OF WHITE MOUNTAINS
(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Reps. Charles Bass and Jeb Bradley (R-NH) today introduced legislation that will designate areas of New Hampshire’s White Mountain National Forest (WMNF) as “wilderness.” Bass’ legislation will create a new wilderness area of approximately 23,700 acres in size in the Wild River Valley. Bradley’s legislation will expand the existing wilderness area in the Sandwich Range by 10,800 acres. Both wilderness areas were proposed in the WMNF plan and require Congressional action in order to be established.
