Nothing is as important as making sure our children have the best advantages we can give them. Republicans in Congress are working to ensure that everyone has access to the best education they can receive and that our public schools are held accountable in educating our children.
The No Child Left Behind Act is a key part on our efforts to better public education. It requires states to have a highly qualified school teacher in every public classroom; allows parents with children in underachieving schools to transfer them to a better public or charter school; requires school districts to give parents annual report cards on academic performance of schools; and targets federal education dollars to the poorest schools and districts.
Even on top of all this, we need to do more. Republicans want results from our schools. We want to ensure every child can read by the 3rd grade. Parents should have more of a hand in their child's education than unions. We are committed to excellence in education.
