Weldon: Top Democrat Signals Tax Increases
Washington, D.C…During a speech last week, Robert Rubin, Treasury Secretary under Clinton and a top Democrat advisor on tax policy, spoke in code about his party’s commitment to raise taxes on millions of American families and businesses, saying, “You cannot solve this nation’s fiscal problem without increased revenue.” According to U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, M.D. (R-FL), Rubin’s comment is only the latest signal from the new Democrat majority that automatic tax increases are in the future for Americans...

Weldon Named to U.S. Border Control Hall of Fame
Citing his recent votes to secure our porous borders and stop the flood of illegal immigrants, a non-partisan advocacy group, the U.S. Border Control, has named U.S. Rep. Dave Weldon, M.D. (R-FL) to its U.S. Border Control Hall of Fame for the 109th Congress. The announcement today comes as President Bush is expected this week to sign the Secure Fence Act of 2006, which authorizes the construction of a 700-mile security fence along our porous southern border...

Weldon Statement on North Korea
“Earlier this week, North Korea detonated what it claims was a nuclear weapon. Some on the Left have erroneously blamed the Bush Administration for this unfortunate turn of events. Among other things, they’ve criticized President Bush for failing to enter into one-on-one talks with Kim Jong Il, the unpredictable North Korean dictator. This criticism, however, ignores recent history and the extent to which the Clinton Administration’s naïve policy of appeasement help set in motion this week’s events...

Weldon, Maloney Introduce Vaccine Safety Bill
At a press conference Wednesday morning, U.S. Reps. Dave Weldon, M.D. (R-FL) and Carolyn Maloney (D-NY) introduced a bill that would give responsibility for the nation’s vaccine safety to an independent agency within the Department of Health and Human Services, removing most vaccine safety research from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Currently, the CDC has responsibility for both vaccine safety and promotion, which is an inherent conflict of interest increasingly garnering public criticism...

No American Heroes?
When was the last time you picked up the newspaper and found a front-page story highlighting an American hero in Iraq? What have you heard about the nearly 3000 schools that have been built or rehabilitated in Iraq? The media bias in Iraq is becoming more and more apparent. Here’s what one moderate-liberal leaning reporter who covers Congress, Mort Kondracke had to say about the media coverage of the Iraq war:

“Well, Bob Lichter of the Center for Media and Public affairs who tracks what is on TV every night and says that the coverage is two to three to one negative since the beginning of the war. And the question is, is the story that bad? But there -- there's clearly things that are missing from the coverage. One of them is, you never see anything about American heroes. There's -- whoever is winning silver stars, we don't know anything about it. Who are these people who are willing to volunteer to be Iraqi policemen and in danger of getting themselves blown up or willing to serve as members of parliament and risking their lives? Why are they doing it? And what have they got to say?

Why Embryo Stem Cell Research is NOT the Answer
Weldon met with a brave young lady in his office named Susan Fajt, and she was accompanied by Laura Dominguez. Both had suffered spinal cord injuries. Both ladies were injured in a car wreck. Laura's injury was in the neck, and this young lady's injury was in what we call T-6. It is the thoracic spine which is sort of the upper part of the chest, middle of the chest area. Despite paralysis, this young girls condition was greatly improved by the use of Adult Stem Cell Therpy, an ethical procedure that does not harm a human embryo.
