VFW In Afghanistan The People Fighting the War
The following story is from VFW Communications Director Jerry Newberry, who was with the 10th Mountain Div., 1/32 Inf. A Co., during a month-long assignment in Afghanistan.
You can’t write about this war without writing about the people who are fighting the war. What better way to do it than through the eyes of someone who knows “his” troops intimately, who eats, sleeps, fights, laughs and cries with them, and who takes each casualty to heart and carries the burden of responsibility for their health, welfare and safety with him 24/7.
And if you want to know the overall story of the soldiers of the 1/32, Command Sergeant Major Jimmy Carabello says it best:

Pepsi Bottling Group Sends Calling Cards to Troops Donation Made on Behalf of PBG Veterans for Veterans Day
SOMERS, N.Y., Nov. 7, 2006--It is one of the most meaningful gifts U.S. soldiers stationed overseas can receive: the chance to talk to their loved ones back home.
Now, The Pepsi Bottling Group Foundation (The PBG Foundation) is giving that gift to deployed service members and hospitalized veterans - through the Veterans of Foreign Wars Operation Uplink program. The PBG Foundation is making a $20,000 donation to Operation Uplink on behalf of the company's more than 3,000 employees who are veterans.
