November 8, 2006 - REP. ED MARKEY ON DEMOCRATIC HOUSE VICTORY & SPEAKER PELOSI
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Statement of Rep. Edward Markey (D-MA) on the Democratic victory in the House of Representatives tonight:

“Tonight the voters of America cast their votes in favor of a new direction in one of the most historic elections.  In this single mid-term election, America has sent three messages – first, change course in Iraq; second, change the majority in Congress, and third, change the way Washington works.  Democrats are leading this call for change, and they will soon elect the first woman speaker ever to grace the “People’s House” – the U.S. House of Representatives.   Expectations are high for a new Congress, and Democrats are in charge.  I look forward to this challenge.”
