May 25, 2006- Support Weakens for Oil Drilling in Wildlife Refuge
WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today the U.S. House of Representatives voted (225-Y, 201-N, with 7 members not voting) to support the American-made Energy and Good Jobs Act to open up the Arctic Refuge in Alaska to drilling.  The vote marks in increase in support of lawmakers fighting to protect the Arctic refuge, the last House vote on the Arctic refuge took place in April of 2005 and was passed with a vote of (231-Y, 200-N, with 3 members not voting).

December 21, 2005- Senate Votes to Stop Efforts to Attach Arctic Drilling Rider to Defense Bill

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Representative Edward J. Markey (D-MA), a senior member of the House Resources and Energy and Commerce Committees, applauded the decision of 44 Senators to stand up and stop Republican attempts to violate Senate rules by adding a provision authorizing drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge as a non-germane legislative rider to the defense appropriations conference report. The Arctic Refuge drilling provision was added to the conference report at the eleventh hour, when neither the House nor Senate-passed bills contained the provision. Republicans were unable to obtain the 60 votes needed to obtain cloture on the measure.
