Matheson Announces Service Academy Nominees

Salt Lake City, UT-Congressman Jim Matheson is pleased to announce that 16 young men and two young women from Utah's 2nd Congressional District have been selected as nominees to the United States Service Academies.  Their names have been submitted for consideration as members of the academy classes entering in July 2007.

Each U.S. Representative and Senator may have five cadets at each of the four service academies (Naval, Air Force, Military and Merchant Marine) at any one time.  All candidates must be U.S. citizens and legal residents of Utah and must never have been married.

"This year presented another group of very high caliber candidates.  It is inspiring to meet these young people and I am proud to nominate them all," said Matheson.

Ten young people were nominated for one appointment slot at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs; 10 were nominated for two appointment slots at West Point; four were nominated for two appointment slots at the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and two were nominated for one appointment slot at the Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, NY.
