Internet and Credit Card Fraud

Technological advancement has made life at home and at work much easier. Unfortunately, the risk of identity theft and fraud has accompanied the technological boom.  According to the National Cyber Security Alliance, although 86 percent of broadband users said they keep sensitive health, financial or personal information on their home computers, only 11 percent said they have safe and securely configured systems.  Here are some tips you should follow to help increase your security online:

  • Use anti-virus software and always keep it up-to-date.
  • Use a firewall.
  • Whether using peer-to-peer software, your e-mail program or a Wi-Fi transmitter, only share files with people you know or trust.
  • Use unique passwords and don't share them with anyone. Never send personal or sensitive information over e-mail.
  • Download and update your system with the latest security patches.
