About Connie Mack - Biography

Connie Mack was elected to the 109th United States Congress in November of 2004 to represent Florida's 14th Congressional District.  He currently serves on the Transportation and Infrastructure, Budget, and International Relations Committees, allowing him to effectively represent the needs of Southwest Florida.

Following his election, Mack's number one priority was to fight for the much needed funding to help expand I-75 in Southwest Florida from four lanes to six.  Mack sought and received a seat on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.  Working with the Committee's Chairman, fellow Southwest Florida Congressman Mario Diaz-Balart, and Florida's two U.S. Senators, Mack succeeded in securing $81.1 million for this critical project.  As a result, the Florida Department of Transportation has accelerated the timeline for the six lane expansion of I-75.

Mack has also taken a leadership role in protecting Southwest Florida's tourism based-economy and fragile environment from the dangers of offshore oil-drilling.  Mack led the effort to defeat a proposal that would have allowed oil and gas drilling just miles off the coast, and has worked in a bi-partisan fashion to codify the existing federal drilling moratorium in the Gulf of Mexico.

Nationally, Congressman Mack understands that the most important issue of our time is fighting and winning the war on terror.  As a member of the International Relations Committee, he is working to help craft policies that spread the ideals of Freedom, Security and Prosperity around the world.  As a member of the Western Hemisphere Subcommittee, Mack has become Congress' leading critic of Venezuela's Socialist President Hugo Chavez and the rapid military build-up, and ever-growing anti-democratic and anti-U.S. actions of the Chavez government.

Congressman Mack also understands that government doesn't have a revenue problem, it has a spending problem.  On the Budget Committee, he has worked to restore fiscal responsibility and reduce wasteful spending so that people can continue to receive the services they need, but at a price they can afford.

Congressman Mack previously served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2000 to 2003.  As a member of the Florida Legislature, he established himself as a champion for mainstream conservative values, and was named Deputy Majority Leader in just his second term.

Prior to being elected to Congress, Mack was a business executive with Fort Myers-based LTP Management before becoming an independent business and marketing consultant.

Connie Mack was born and raised in Southwest Florida and is a graduate of the University of Florida.  He is the son of former United States Senator Connie Mack and well-known cancer prevention advocate Priscilla Mack.

Mack resides in Fort Myers and is the proud father of two beautiful children, Addison and Connie.
