CONGRESSMAN LATHAM RECOGNIZED FOR WORK
ON BEHALF OF LOW-INCOME FAMILIES IN IOWA

NAMED “ENERGY ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR” BY IOWA ORGANIZATION

WASHINGTON, DC -- Iowa Congressman Tom Latham has been recognized by Mid-Iowa Community Action (MICA), a private, nonprofit agency serving low-income children and families in Iowa, as the “Energy Advocate of the Year”.

The recognition, presented by Arlene McAttee, MICA’s Executive Director, and Chris Hunter, the MICA’s Board Chair, cites the following of Latham, “in recognition of his valuable contributions and conscientious advocacy on energy issues affecting low-income families in Iowa.”

“I am deeply honored by this recognition from the great people at MICA,” said Latham.  “They are an organization that is providing vital resources for Iowa families in times of need and I am proud to work with them in my role as a Member of Congress.”

Latham was presented with the recognition during a demonstration tour of one of the agency’s Weatherization sites this past week in Nevada, Iowa.  MICA’s Weatherization program uses funds appropriated by Congress to improve the energy efficiency of low-income dwellings using the most advanced technologies and testing protocols available in the housing industry.

According to MICA, the improvements through the program have saved Iowa families an average of $481 per year.
