Washington, D.C. - With the passage of H.Res. 1000, Republicans have chosen once again to hide behind rhetoric rather than pass a bill which would address the very real problem of the rampant culture of corruption under the Republican-led Congress.
“Today was a missed opportunity to move the federal government in a new direction – an honest, open, accountable direction. Rather than pass a real reform measure to get tough on special interest earmarks and to cut the unethical ties between lobbyists and lawmakers, Washington Republicans chose instead to pass a sham bill which does little to address the dire need for reform,” said Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz.
Schwartz is a strong supporter of a plan which is aimed at cleaning up the Republicans’ culture of corruption. This plan would require lobbyists to fully disclose their activities, permanently ban gifts from lobbyists to members of Congress and congressional staff, and prevent favoritism, and would limit the influence of special interest groups, such as awarding non-competitive federal contracts.
