Biography
Presently serving his 4th term in Congress, Robin Hayes is a businessman with a personal background of community involvement and public service. He represents the 8th Congressional District of North Carolina. The 8th District includes the counties of Mecklenburg (partial), Union, Anson, Richmond, Scotland, Hoke, Cumberland (partial), Montgomery, Stanly, and Cabarrus.

Robin serves on three House Committees: Agriculture (Chairman of the Livestock and Horticulture Subcommittee and also serving on the Specialty Crops Subcommittee), Transportation and Infrastructure (serving on the Highway and Transit and Pipelines Subcommittee and the Aviation Subcommittee), and Armed Services (Vice Chairman of the Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee, serving on the Readiness Subcommittee and the Military Personnel Subcommittee). He pursued these committee assignments because they would directly benefit the 8th District. He has also been chosen to serve as the Chairman of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus, Chairman of the Special Operations Forces Caucus and he is an Assistant Whip in the House leadership.

A native of North Carolina, he was born on August 14, 1945 in his hometown of Concord. He earned a degree in History from Duke University in 1967. Upon graduation, he began a career in business that has ranged from textiles to trucking.

In Congress, he has established himself as a leader in Washington who is always thinking of his District and North Carolina. Since being in Congress in 1998, he has fought to protect our family farms in times of need; to keep our promises to our seniors; to strengthen our military; and to improve education with greater local control and less bureaucracy.

Robin and his wife Barbara have been married for 38 years and have two children: Winslow Galloway who resides in Greenville (NC) with her husband, Lonnie and Bob who resides in Charlotte with his wife, Heather. Robin and Barbara are members of First Presbyterian Church of Concord.  They are proud to have four grandchildren.
