Myrick Votes To Allow Americans To See Where Their Tax Dollars Are Being Spent

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Representative Sue Myrick (NC-9) voted for House Resolution 1000.  This resolution changes House rules concerning earmarks so that taxpayers can see what money Members of Congress are receiving, and how much.

“Most Americans have no idea where their money goes.  This reform will change the way Congress spends tax dollars by making sure that if a Member receives funding for their district, their name goes by the request,” said Rep. Myrick.  This will reduce the number of outlandish earmarks that waste tax dollars, and will bring more transparency to Washington.”

The rules changes made by the House will require committees to attach a list of requests, and their sponsors, to each bill under their jurisdiction that comes before the House.  Also, when the House and Senate reach agreement on a piece of legislation, a list of any earmarks added to the bill during that negotiation process must be included in the bill before the House votes on it.
