Small Business Groups Commend Langevin's Record

(Warwick, R.I.) A coalition of small business organizations, led by the US Women’s Chamber of Commerce, recently released its congressional scorecard and awarded Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI), a 100 percent approval rating for the 109th Congress.

“It is an honor to receive this rating from these small business groups,” said Langevin. “Small businesses are truly the engines that keep our economy humming both here in Rhode Island and nationwide. I am proud to cast votes that are designed to help them be more productive and increase their access to capital to encourage future growth.”

The report was released by the Chamber, in conjunction with the American Small Business League, Latino American Management Association, National Procurement Council, Small Business Majority and Business Professional Women/USA. It reviewed nine House votes that would have impacted small businesses. Some of the legislation passed but the majority was not adopted.

Among the nine votes that Langevin supported are:

  • A vote to restore funding to support micro entrepreneurs, businesses in low-income areas and family farms (Roll Call 327 – June 27, 2006)
  • A vote to protect small business owners during future disasters (Roll Call 62 – March 16, 2006)
  • A vote to invigorate the growth of minority high tech companies (Roll Call 415 – July 22, 2005)
  • A vote to lower the costs of SBA lending programs (Roll Call 246 – June 14, 2005)
  • “While it is disappointing to me that much of this critical legislation did not pass, I am committed to continuing the fight on behalf of Rhode Island’s small business community,” concluded Langevin.
