KOLBE PRAISES NOMINATION OF NEW

SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION

(Washington, DC)  -- President Bush today announced the nomination for Secretary of Transportation, Mary Peters.  Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ) released the following statement in response:

“I am pleased to see one of Arizona’s most accomplished and successful women receive this outstanding promotion,” said Rep. Jim Kolbe (R-AZ). “This is a proud moment for our state.  Her time spent as Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation and later as Chief of the Federal Highway Administration speaks for itself and will serve her well as Transportation Secretary.  There is not a doubt in my mind that she will bring her innovation and leadership to this new position and excel.”

Mary Peters has held impressive positions as Chief of the Federal Highway Administration (2001-2005), Director of the Arizona Department of Transportation, and National Director for Transportation Policy and Consulting at HDR Inc, an architectural, engineering and consulting firm.

The Senate must confirm the Presidential nomination and is expected to do so in the coming months.
